Osun Guber: APC Chieftain Urges Parties to Shun Violence, Embrace Peace

The All Progressives Congress chieftain in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to avoid violence and work towards a peaceful governorship election on August 15.

Oyintiloye made the appeal on Sunday while speaking with journalists in Osogbo, ahead of the poll.

He urged all political actors and other stakeholders involved in the election to put the interest of the state first and ensure that their activities do not create tension or threaten the safety of residents.

The APC chieftain advised candidates and their supporters to conduct their campaigns and other election-related activities peacefully, regardless of their political differences.

He also called on political parties to discourage their members from engaging in actions capable of causing clashes before, during or after the election.

Oyintiloye stressed the need for all stakeholders to respect the electoral process and allow voters to freely choose their preferred candidate without intimidation or violence.

He further urged supporters of the various candidates to remain calm and accept the outcome of the election through lawful means.

The appeal comes as political parties intensify preparations for the August 15 governorship poll, with competing camps seeking the support of voters across the state.

Oyintiloye said maintaining peace should remain a shared responsibility among candidates, political parties, supporters, security agencies, electoral officials and the electorate.

He urged stakeholders to avoid inflammatory actions and statements that could increase political tension, noting that a peaceful election would be in the best interest of Osun residents.

He also encouraged voters to come out and exercise their civic rights without fear, while calling on political actors to ensure that the election is conducted in an atmosphere that allows citizens to participate freely.
