Osun Election: Thugs Allegedly Kill Two APC Members in Ilesa

Two members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, were reportedly killed while several others sustained injuries during an attack in Ilesa, Osun State, on Tuesday morning, raising fresh concerns about security ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The incident happened around the Igbogi area of Ilesa, where APC supporters had gathered in preparation for a final campaign rally expected to take place in the community.

The attack has increased tension in the area as political parties and their supporters prepare for the August 15 governorship poll.

According to reports, the attackers allegedly targeted the APC supporters while they were gathered in the area. Two party members were said to have lost their lives during the incident, while several others were injured.


The identities of those responsible for the attack were not immediately confirmed, and it was also unclear what led to the violence.


The incident comes amid growing concerns over political violence in parts of Osun State as the election draws closer.


Security agencies have been under pressure to strengthen their presence across the state and ensure the safety of voters, candidates, party supporters and residents before, during and after the election.


The latest attack is expected to further increase calls for security agencies to prevent violence and maintain peace as political activities reach their final stage ahead of Saturday’s poll.
