Adeleke takes 19 LGs, Oyebamiji wins 11 in Osun

Ademola Adeleke has secured victory in 19 of Osun State’s 30 Local Government Areas, while the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, won 11 LGs in the governorship election held on Saturday.

The result gives the incumbent governor of the Accord Party an early advantage as the Independent National Electoral Commission prepares to announce the final outcome of the poll.

A total of 15 political parties contested the election, but the race was largely dominated by Adeleke and Oyebamiji. The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished far behind the two leading contenders with 14,989 votes.

The final declaration was expected to be made by the State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, at the INEC collation centre in Osogbo.

Results announced from the 30 local government areas showed a close contest in several parts of the state, with Adeleke taking many of the major population centres while Oyebamiji also secured strong support across several LGAs.

Adeleke recorded 36,480 votes in Osogbo, against Oyebamiji’s 30,474 votes. He also won Ede North with 35,427 votes compared with the APC candidate’s 10,283 votes.

In Ede South, Adeleke polled 26,188 votes, while Oyebamiji received 6,219 votes. The incumbent also won Ife Central with 21,171 votes against 15,913 for Oyebamiji.
Adeleke secured Ife East with 27,201 votes, while Oyebamiji got 18,600 votes. He also won Iwo, where he received 27,085 votes compared with 19,660 votes for the APC candidate.

Oyebamiji, however, won several LGAs, including Ilesa East, where he scored 16,208 votes against Adeleke’s 12,280. He also took Boripe with 19,963 votes, defeating Adeleke who polled 12,448 votes.

The APC candidate won Irepodun with 15,713 votes against Adeleke’s 14,504 votes and secured Obokun with 16,120 votes compared with 12,023 votes recorded by the Accord candidate.

Oyebamiji also won Atakumosa West, Irewole, Atakumosa East, Isokan, Olaoluwa, Ife South and Olorunda.
Adeleke, on the other hand, won several other areas, including Boluwaduro, Ifedayo, Ilesa West, Orolu, Oriade, Odo Otin, Ifelodun, Ayedire, Egbedore, Ayedaade, Ila and Ejigbo.

The election attracted attention across the state as voters decided who would govern Osun for the next four years.
The final result remained subject to the official declaration by INEC at the time of the report.
