The African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Jigawa State has said it is preparing to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 general elections and take control of the state government.
The ADC state chairman, Dr Sani Muhammad Gumel, disclosed this while speaking with journalists about the party’s preparations for the forthcoming elections.
Gumel said the APC’s control of the state government would not prevent the ADC from winning at the polls. He said the party was gaining support across Jigawa as more voters and political actors became interested in its activities.
The chairman said the ADC had been expanding its structures at the grassroots and engaging political stakeholders across the state as part of its plans for the 2027 elections.
He said the party was aiming for victory in the three senatorial districts, all 11 House of Representatives constituencies and the 31 State House of Assembly seats in Jigawa.
Gumel said voters would judge the APC by its record in office rather than simply by the fact that it currently controls the government. He maintained that holding public office does not by itself guarantee victory at the ballot box.
According to him, the ADC intends to present itself as a strong alternative by focusing on accountability, transparency, economic growth and better living conditions for residents.
He added that politicians from different parties had been joining the ADC and working with its members ahead of the 2027 elections. He said the party was interested in candidates with strong connections to voters at the grassroots.
Gumel expressed confidence that the ADC could field credible candidates across the various positions and attract enough support to challenge the APC for power in Jigawa.
He urged party members and supporters to remain united and increase their mobilisation efforts across communities. He said the party would continue discussions with political stakeholders and residents as preparations for the election continue.
The ADC chairman also encouraged women and young people to take a more active role in the political process and participate fully in the 2027 elections.
He said the party would make its programmes and detailed electoral plans known as the election approaches.
The ADC’s declaration comes amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties across the country working to expand their structures and challenge the dominance of the ruling APC.
