The Allied Peoples Movement, APM, has secured all 20 chairmanship positions and 319 of the 323 councillorship seats in the Bauchi State local government elections held on Monday.
The results were released by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission, BASIEC, after voting, counting, collation and verification were completed across the state.
The outcome gave the APM control of all 20 local government councils, while four other political parties won one councillorship seat each.
BASIEC Chairman, Hajiya Jummai Abubakar, announced the results and said the candidates declared winners had met the required legal conditions and obtained the highest number of valid votes in their respective areas.
Umar Mohammed Aliyu recorded the largest number of votes among the chairmanship candidates. He won Bauchi Local Government Area with 125,170 votes.
Abubakar Ibrahim Dembo followed with 109,999 votes in Toro, while Bappah Aliyu Mohammed secured Alkaleri with 107,482 votes.
Other APM chairmanship winners included Ya’u Samaila Sade, who won Darazo with 67,276 votes, and Yusuf Babayo Zaki, who secured Katagum with 65,626 votes.
Ali Babayo won Gamawa with 54,423 votes, while Sama’ila Wakili Lere secured Tafawa Balewa with 46,625 votes. Habibu Idris Usman also emerged winner in Warji after polling 43,066 votes.
In Shira, former Majority Leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Saleh Hodi Jibir, won the chairmanship contest with 37,135 votes.
The APM also won the remaining local government areas. Zakka Luka Magaji won Bogoro with 25,282 votes, while Iliya Isah secured Dambam with 19,730 votes.
Mohammed Abubakar Jibo won Dass with 35,264 votes, while Mohammed Idris M. secured Ganjuwa with 24,150 votes. Mustapha Alhaji Musa won Giade with 33,864 votes.
Dankawuwa Ya’u emerged victorious in Itas/Gadau with 24,989 votes, while Inuwa Abdullahi won Jama’are after recording 36,766 votes.
Garba Musa secured Kirfi with 24,787 votes, Salisu Hussaini won Misau with 34,378 votes, and Yahuza Adamu Haruna emerged winner in Ningi with 29,387 votes. Mas’ud Aliyu also won Zaki with 19,984 votes.
The APM’s strong performance extended to the councillorship contests, where it captured 319 of the 323 available seats.
The Social Democratic Party won Dandango Ward in Bauchi Local Government Area, while the National Rescue Movement secured Darazo South Ward.
The Zenith Labour Party won Wandi Ward in Dass Local Government Area, and the Young Progressive Party took Zirami Ward in Giade Local Government Area.
BASIEC said the election was conducted independently and according to the relevant electoral laws. The commission also congratulated the elected chairmen and councillors as well as residents of the state following the completion of the local government polls.
The commission also acknowledged the support of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed during the electoral exercise.
With the results, the APM has secured control of all 20 local government councils in Bauchi State and holds an overwhelming majority of the councillorship positions from the election.
