The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has reaffirmed Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The clarification was made by the state APC chairman, Yemi Sanusi, on Sunday following claims by Abayomi Hunye that the party’s governorship ticket remained subject to a legal dispute.
Sanusi said the party recognised Adeola as its candidate and urged APC members, supporters and the public to disregard any information suggesting otherwise.
The controversy followed Hunye’s appearance at a press briefing in Abeokuta, where he said he had not withdrawn from the governorship race. He disclosed that he was challenging in court the process that produced Adeola as the APC candidate.
Hunye also introduced Abayomi Odunowo from Ijebu-Ode as his running mate and said he would continue his political activities while awaiting the outcome of the legal process.
The APC, however, maintained that its primary election had already produced Adeola as the party’s candidate. According to the party, Adeola secured 304,055 votes from the 305,287 accredited voters who took part in the primary.

Following the primary, Adeola selected Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun as his running mate. The party said both names had been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission as its candidates for the 2027 Ogun governorship election.
The party also distanced itself from any statement or document presenting Hunye or another person as its governorship candidate.
Former federal lawmaker and APC chieftain Kayode Oladele also criticised Hunye’s continued pursuit of the ticket. He argued that the party had completed its nomination process and submitted Adeola’s name to INEC.
Hunye, through his media office, later clarified that he had not personally declared himself the APC governorship candidate. His position, according to the statement, is that the matter remains before the courts and that the legal questions surrounding the nomination have not been finally settled.
The disagreement has therefore created a fresh dispute within the Ogun APC as the party prepares for the 2027 election.
While the state leadership continues to recognise Adeola as its candidate, Hunye is relying on the ongoing court process to challenge the nomination.
The APC has urged members and the public to depend on official statements from the party and electoral authorities when seeking information about its 2027 governorship candidate.
