2027: NDC Criticizes Tinubu, Atiku over absence from Peace Accord

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has criticised President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over their absence from a Peace Accord signing organised for presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 election.

The party’s Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, made the criticism on Tuesday, saying Nigerians want political leaders who are willing to meet and speak directly with them.

The Peace Accord event was organised by the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as part of efforts to promote peaceful political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Tinubu, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, were both absent from the event.

Agada said the absence of the two major presidential candidates contrasted with the presence of the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who attended the event and interacted with Nigerians.

According to the NDC chieftain, Obi has continued to make himself available to members of the public through meetings and engagements across the country.
He argued that political leaders should not distance themselves from the people they intend to govern, especially as the country moves closer to another presidential election.

Agada said the NDC believes its candidate has demonstrated greater willingness to engage directly with Nigerians and listen to their concerns.

The party’s statement comes at a time when political activities are gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with major parties already beginning campaigns, consultations and other preparations.

The NDC also used the development to present Obi as a candidate who, in its view, is accessible to voters and ready to engage with them directly.

The party maintained that Nigerians deserve presidential candidates who can explain their plans, answer questions and interact with citizens during the election period.
