2027: Vote Tinubu, Die in Poverty – Amaechi Warns Nigerians

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has urged Nigerians not to re-elect President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, warning that continued support for his administration could worsen the economic hardship facing citizens.

Amaechi made the call on Friday, September 4, 2026, during a meeting with political stakeholders in Obigwe, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State. The former Rivers State governor said the meeting was part of efforts to strengthen the ADC at the grassroots and mobilise supporters ahead of the 2027 election.

He criticised the removal of the fuel subsidy by the Tinubu administration, saying the policy had increased the pressure on Nigerians and contributed to the rising cost of living. According to him, many citizens have continued to struggle with high prices of essential goods and other economic challenges since the subsidy was removed.

The ADC candidate also spoke about his record as Rivers governor, claiming that his administration responded to insecurity and social problems by investing public funds in areas such as education, healthcare, schools and payments to contractors.

Amaechi accused subsequent administrations of abandoning some of the programmes and projects started during his tenure. He also alleged that public resources have not always been used in ways that directly benefit ordinary Nigerians.

With the 2027 election approaching, Amaechi said voters would face a choice between continuing with the policies of the present administration and supporting the opposition. He urged Nigerians to carefully consider the economic impact of their decision before casting their ballots.

He also referred to Atiku Abubakar’s position on fuel and electricity subsidies, saying the former vice-president had promised to restore subsidy measures if elected president. Amaechi argued that such policies could reduce fuel prices and ease pressure on households and businesses.

The former governor said lower energy costs could also affect the prices of food and other basic commodities, which he believes would provide some relief to Nigerians struggling with the current cost of living.

Amaechi therefore called on residents of Rivers State and Nigerians across the country to support the ADC and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2027 election, presenting the contest as a choice between the current economic direction and an alternative approach proposed by the opposition.
