‘Say What I’ve Done Wrong’ – Obi Challenges Nigerians

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has challenged Nigerians to examine his personal and political record and publicly point out any wrongdoing they believe he has committed.

Obi made the challenge on Thursday, September 3, 2026, during a town hall meeting with voters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, organised under the theme Obi Talks Nigeria. The former Anambra State governor used the meeting to address issues surrounding the 2027 general elections and his political record.

He said Nigerians have the right to examine his background and that of his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, including their education, personal history and other details. Obi said the information about both candidates had been made available for public scrutiny and verification.

The NDC candidate’s comments came amid increased attention on the backgrounds and past records of politicians preparing to contest the 2027 presidential election. Several political figures have faced questions about their education, previous activities and records as the election draws closer.

Obi also referred to his ongoing legal dispute with Kenneth Okonkwo, who served as his spokesperson during the 2023 presidential campaign. The dispute followed claims by Okonkwo that he had information about Obi’s past that could surprise the public.

Obi said he decided to take the matter to court because he wanted any such information to be made public and subjected to proper scrutiny. He challenged Okonkwo and others who may have information about his conduct to present it openly rather than make unverified claims.

The former Anambra governor extended the challenge to his running mate, Kwankwaso. He called on anyone with credible information about wrongdoing by either of them to make it known to the public.

Obi also spoke about the standard expected of anyone seeking the presidency. He argued that candidates should be subjected to a transparent and credible process before being entrusted with the highest political office in the country.

According to him, holding public office should be backed by a process that Nigerians can trust. He maintained that political leaders should be able to account for their records and allow citizens to examine their backgrounds before making their choice at the polls.

Obi and Kwankwaso are preparing to contest the 2027 presidential election under the NDC as opposition parties continue their campaigns and efforts to challenge President Bola Tinubu.

The call for public scrutiny comes as political parties intensify their activities ahead of the election, with the backgrounds, records and qualifications of presidential candidates expected to remain major issues in the campaign.
