2027: Makinde Has What It Takes to Be President – Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, on Monday said Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement candidate Seyi Makinde has the qualifications to become Nigeria’s president in the 2027 election.

Obi made the statement in Abuja while attending the inauguration of Makinde’s presidential campaign office as political activities continue to build ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The NDC candidate also said he would be willing to work with whoever emerges as president through what he described as a genuine, free and credible electoral process.

Obi called on politicians to put their differences aside and focus on building a country where citizens can have better opportunities. He said Nigeria needs greater unity and inclusion rather than constant political disputes.

According to him, his presence at Makinde’s campaign office was meant to show support for peaceful political engagement and a willingness to cooperate with other political actors despite belonging to different parties.

Obi said the 2027 contest should not be driven by desperation or personal interests. He urged Nigerians to freely choose the candidate they believe can provide better leadership and address the challenges facing the country.

The former Anambra State governor also pointed to the economic difficulties confronting many Nigerians, including poverty and hunger, saying political competition should focus on finding practical solutions to these problems.

He further called for a political system where ordinary Nigerians can progress without depending on personal connections or knowing influential people.

Obi’s appearance at the campaign office came shortly after he and Makinde had been seen together at the inauguration, adding to discussions about possible cooperation among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 election.

Makinde is seeking the presidency under the APM, while Obi will contest under the NDC. Both are among the opposition politicians positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential race against President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress.
