Osun Motor Park Shooting: Police Launch Probe After Man’s Death

The Osun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the shooting of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, during a clash at a motor park in Ile-Ife on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

Oyeyemi was reportedly shot during a confrontation involving him and a group of commercial drivers led by a man identified as Sibi around Mayfair Motor Park in the city.

The incident was later confirmed by the Osun State Government, which said Oyeyemi died from injuries sustained during the clash. Governor Ademola Adeleke subsequently directed the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.

The police said they received information about the incident around Energy Filling Station in Ile-Ife and immediately deployed officers to the area to restore calm, secure the location and begin investigations.

The command said initial findings confirmed that Oyeyemi had been shot, while detectives were working to determine what led to the confrontation and establish the events that resulted in his death.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said investigators were examining both the immediate circumstances of the shooting and the events that may have contributed to the clash.

The police are also working to identify everyone involved and ensure that anyone found to have played a role in the incident faces the law.

Following the death, the Commissioner of Police condemned the violence and warned residents against taking matters into their own hands.

The command cautioned individuals and groups against retaliatory attacks, destruction of property and other actions capable of causing further unrest in the state.

The police also appealed to residents of Osun, particularly people with information about the incident, to assist investigators by providing useful details that could help in identifying the suspects and understanding what happened.

The command assured members of the public that officers would continue to take steps to protect lives and property and maintain peace across the state.

The police also expressed sympathy to the family, friends and associates of Oyeyemi following his death.

The shooting comes amid concerns over disputes and clashes around motor parks, with the police urging residents to avoid violence and allow law enforcement agencies to handle conflicts and criminal matters.

The investigation is ongoing as the police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting and bring those responsible to justice.
