2027: I’ll Never Seek Medical Treatment Abroad – Sowore

The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has said he will not seek medical treatment outside Nigeria if elected President, insisting that he would rely on healthcare services available in the country.

Sowore made the statement on Thursday, September 17, 2026, during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed how he would conduct himself if elected in the 2027 presidential election.

The AAC candidate said he would accept treatment within Nigeria and would not travel abroad for medical care for any condition that could not be treated in the country.

Sowore also spoke about his approach to family members and the use of public office, saying he would not allow his presidency to become a means of creating special benefits or responsibilities for his family.

He said his priority as president would be to serve Nigerians and use the office to address the country’s needs rather than for personal or family interests.

Sowore further said he would not establish or maintain an official position for a First Lady because, in his view, the office is not provided for in the Nigerian Constitution.

He clarified that his position would not affect his marriage or prevent his wife from carrying out her personal activities. However, he said she would not occupy an official First Lady position funded or supported by government resources.

The AAC presidential candidate said women would still have a place in his administration and would be given opportunities to participate in government and national affairs.

He argued that public funds should instead be directed towards projects and programmes that directly benefit Nigerians rather than maintaining positions he considers unconstitutional.

Sowore has previously spoken about changes he would make to the structure and operation of the presidency if elected in 2027, including his position on the First Lady office and the use of public resources.

His latest comments form part of his campaign message as political parties and presidential candidates prepare for the 2027 general election.
