NDC Candidate Accuses APC, Delta Govt Over Rally Attack

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, candidate for Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency, Dr Obiuwevbi Ominimini, has accused the Delta State Government and the All Progressives Congress, APC, of being behind an attack on NDC supporters during a campaign march in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.

The incident reportedly happened during the party’s campaign procession known as the ‘1,000,000-Man March for NDC Candidates, 5-over-5’, which was held as part of the party’s mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

Ominimini made the allegation after the incident, claiming that armed thugs disrupted the procession and attacked some of the party’s supporters.

The NDC candidate alleged that the attack was aimed at creating fear among members of the party and discouraging people from supporting its candidates in the coming elections.

He accused Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the APC of allegedly organising the attackers, while calling on the relevant security agencies to investigate the incident and identify those responsible.

Ominimini described the reported attack as a threat to democratic participation and urged authorities to ensure that political supporters are able to carry out campaign activities without violence or intimidation.

Despite the incident, the NDC candidate said members of the party would continue with their campaign and mobilisation efforts across Delta State.

He also appealed to NDC supporters to remain calm and avoid actions that could lead to further violence. He urged them to obey the law while continuing to support the party’s activities.

The candidate maintained that the reported attack would not stop the party from reaching out to voters and seeking support for its candidates ahead of the elections.

As of the time of filing the report, neither the Delta State Government nor the APC had issued an official response to the allegation made by the NDC candidate.
