A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in Abia State, Uko Nkole, has said Peter Obi will not withdraw from the 2027 presidential race despite reports by the Anambra State Government over loans allegedly linked to his tenure as governor.

Nkole, who is the NDC candidate for the Abia North Senatorial District, made the statement while reacting to the recent claims concerning loans reportedly obtained during Obi’s administration in Anambra State.
He also accused Governor Charles Soludo of working with the Presidency in searching for information that could be used to prevent Obi from taking part in the 2027 presidential election.
According to Nkole, the latest development would not achieve the alleged aim of forcing the former Anambra governor out of the presidential contest.
The former member of the House of Representatives claimed that the reports about the loans were part of an attempt by the Presidency to weaken Obi’s campaign and discourage him from continuing his bid for the presidency.
Nkole further alleged that the attention being given to Obi was linked to concerns within the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Presidency over the support Obi received during the 2023 presidential election.

He argued that the continued focus on Obi had not reduced his political support, but could instead increase public interest in his campaign.
The NDC chieftain also claimed that attempts to find information that could be used against Obi had not produced the desired result. He maintained that the latest allegations would not make the former governor abandon his presidential ambition.
Nkole further accused the Presidency of acting against the interests of Nigerians through what he described as efforts to discredit the NDC presidential candidate.
He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to avoid a repeat of the network-related explanation given after the 2023 presidential and National Assembly elections.
The NDC candidate warned that voters would closely monitor the electoral process in 2027 and urged Nigerians to take steps to protect their votes at polling units and during the collation process.
He said voters should remain alert on election day and be ready to assist with internet connectivity if INEC officials experience network problems during the exercise.
Nkole’s comments came amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections and renewed attention on allegations concerning Obi’s tenure as governor of Anambra State.
