APGA Lifted Many Igbo Politicians to Prominence – Soludo

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has said the All Progressives Grand Alliance played a major role in helping many Igbo politicians rise to prominence in Nigerian politics.

Soludo made the statement on Saturday at the headquarters of Ekwusigo Local Government Area in Ozubulu, shortly after commissioning projects completed by the outgoing council chairman, Chinezie Obi.

The governor said APGA had provided a platform through which several politicians from the South-East gained political recognition and reached higher positions. He, however, criticised politicians who benefited from the party but later moved to other political parties and now question APGA’s relevance.

Soludo also spoke about the political position of the Igbo ahead of the 2027 general elections. He said the region should avoid relying on one political platform while later complaining about being left out of political affairs at the federal level.

According to the governor, the South-East needs to maintain a stronger relationship with the Federal Government in order to improve its access to opportunities and representation at the centre.

He said APGA’s position was to work with the All Progressives Congress at the presidential level while seeking to retain its control of legislative seats in Anambra State during the 2027 elections.

Soludo said the arrangement would allow APGA to focus on state politics while supporting the APC for the presidency. He also referred to the party’s recent performance in the Anambra local government elections, where APGA secured the chairmanship and councillorship positions.

The governor spoke while commending Obi for his work during his time as chairman of Ekwusigo Local Government Area. He praised the outgoing council boss for the way he managed available resources and used them to carry out development projects across the area.

Among the projects commissioned were road works, CCTV installations and skill acquisition centres intended to support students and young people in the local government.

Soludo said the projects showed that local councils could carry out development work when their resources were properly managed. He also promised to reward Obi for his performance after leaving office.

The governor expressed hope that the incoming chairman, Ifeanyi Onuchukwu, would build on the projects and achievements recorded by his predecessor when he assumes office.

Earlier, Obi thanked Soludo for his support and said the projects completed during his tenure were made possible partly through the state government’s activities and policies.

Onuchukwu, who is expected to take over the council leadership, said he had prepared an action plan based on his campaign promises and would begin implementing it after his swearing-in.

The event also featured the presentation of community service awards to both Obi and Onuchukwu by the youth wing of the Anambra State Town Union Council. The awards were presented by the group led by its President-General, Ken Okoli.
