The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has promised that several ongoing road projects in Abuja will be completed by December 2026, describing the projects as a Christmas gift from President Bola Tinubu to residents of the capital.

Wike made the commitment on Tuesday in Abuja after inspecting construction work on Arterial Road N1, linking Wuye to Ring Road II, the Tungan Madaki to Zuba Road, and the Zaudna-Kaba-Kagini route leading to the Kubwa Expressway.
The minister’s aide, Lere Olayinka, disclosed the development in a post on X after the inspection.
Wike said he was satisfied with the progress of work on the roads and praised the contractors for their efforts towards meeting the deadlines set for the projects.
He said completing the roads would bring relief to residents of the affected areas, particularly those who have faced transportation challenges due to poor road conditions.
According to the minister, improved road networks would also support businesses and increase economic activity in the communities connected by the projects.
Wike acknowledged that the rainy season had affected some of the earthworks and slowed construction in certain areas. However, he expressed confidence that work would move faster as rainfall reduces.
He said the contractors were committed to the projects and expected construction activities, especially earthworks, to increase from the beginning of October when the rains were expected to become less intense.

The minister also spoke to residents along the Tungan Madaki to Zuba Road corridor and assured them that efforts would be made to ensure the contractor meets the December completion target.
Wike told the residents that the Federal Government viewed the road projects as part of its efforts to improve infrastructure and living conditions in communities within the FCT.
During his interaction with residents around Kaba along the Kagini to Kubwa Expressway corridor, the minister again expressed satisfaction with the progress of the road project and said its completion would benefit people living in the area.
He also used the opportunity to call on residents to support President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election and former FCT Minister Philip Aduda in the contest for the FCT Senate seat.
Wike said Aduda would be able to represent the interests of FCT residents at the National Assembly and work with the Federal Government on issues affecting the territory.
The minister has repeatedly stated his support for Tinubu’s bid for another term in office in 2027. He has also continued to support the Rainbow Coalition, which he says is focused on mobilising political support for the President.
The road projects inspected by Wike are part of the ongoing infrastructure works across the FCT aimed at improving connectivity, reducing travel difficulties and supporting economic activities in communities around Abuja.
The minister said the expected completion of the projects before Christmas would provide residents with improved access and contribute to better economic activity in the affected areas.
