Greenspan Links Tinubu to US Drug Investigation, Demands Release of Files

United States journalist and transparency activist Aaron Greenspan has alleged that Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was connected to several investigations linked to an alleged drug-trafficking network investigated by US authorities in the 1990s.

Greenspan made the claim during an interview with Laolu Akande, founder of Empowered Newswire, which was published on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

The journalist also suggested that there could be another criminal case involving Tinubu that has not been made public because it may have been filed under seal.

According to Greenspan, at least three separate cases in the United States are connected to investigations into the alleged drug network.

He identified the cases as criminal indictments filed in 1992 against individuals said to be connected to the network, a separate criminal case involving Nigerian businessman Abiodun Agbele, and a 1993 civil forfeiture case involving about $460,000 in an account bearing Tinubu’s name.

Greenspan also raised the possibility of a fourth case involving Tinubu, saying it could have been a criminal indictment that remains sealed and therefore unavailable to the public.

He based the possibility on details contained in historical investigative records concerning Tinubu. The records, according to him, include information about bank accounts, family members and a vehicle.

Greenspan said the available records could support two possible explanations. One is that US authorities investigated the matter but eventually decided not to prosecute. The other is that a criminal case was filed but remains sealed.

He further linked Agbele to the alleged drug network while stating that the historical records described Tinubu’s alleged connection as financial rather than direct involvement in the distribution of heroin.

The claims concern investigations and court records dating back several decades. Greenspan’s comments therefore relate to historical allegations and do not by themselves establish that Tinubu was charged or convicted of a drug-trafficking offence.
