Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North in the National Assembly, has said Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is supporting President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid rather than the All Progressives Congress as a political party.

Oshiomhole made the statement during a television interview on Tuesday while discussing the growing disagreement between Wike and some APC governors. The dispute followed comments by the FCT minister about the political activities of some governors elected on the APC platform.
The former Edo State governor said Wike is not a member of the APC but has consistently made his support for Tinubu’s second-term bid known.
Oshiomhole said the differences between Wike and some APC governors should not be viewed as opposition to Tinubu, as both sides have stated their support for the President ahead of the 2027 election.

Wike has also previously clarified that his political support is specifically for Tinubu’s presidential re-election and does not mean that he has joined the APC. He has said the cross-party Rainbow Coalition associated with him is separate from the ruling party and is intended to mobilise support for Tinubu.
The FCT minister has maintained that the Peoples Democratic Party can still field candidates for governorship and legislative elections in 2027, even as he supports Tinubu for president.
Oshiomhole’s comments come amid continuing disagreements between Wike and some APC governors over the nature of his political activities and the role of the Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. APC governors have expressed concerns about political arrangements outside the party, while Wike has continued to separate his support for Tinubu from membership of the APC.
Wike remains a member of the PDP and has not announced a defection to the APC. His stated position has been that he will work for Tinubu’s re-election while retaining the freedom of political parties to contest other positions in the 2027 elections.
