The Federal Government has completed 10 radiodiagnostic centres and three cancer treatment centres in different parts of Nigeria as part of its efforts to improve healthcare services across the country.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, disclosed this while commissioning a radiodiagnostic centre at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi State.
Pate said the 10 diagnostic centres were developed through partnerships involving MedSafe and the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority.
According to the minister, the projects are part of the Federal Government’s plan to provide Nigerians with better access to modern medical equipment and diagnostic services.
He said work on the Bauchi centre began about two years ago and has now been completed, alongside nine other diagnostic facilities located in various parts of the country.
Pate said the centres would provide modern diagnostic services while also creating opportunities for medical training and research.
He disclosed that the next commissioning would take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, while the other eight diagnostic centres had already been completed.
The minister said the projects formed part of the healthcare reforms being pursued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to improve hospital infrastructure, equipment and medical services.
He also announced that three cancer centres had been completed under the wider healthcare development programme.
Pate said cooperation between the Federal Government and state governments remained important to expanding access to quality healthcare services, particularly in areas where specialised medical facilities are limited.
He further disclosed that the government was preparing to establish six major multi-specialty hospitals across the country.
According to him, each of the six geopolitical zones will have one of the proposed hospitals, which will provide specialised medical services and further expand the country’s healthcare capacity.
The minister thanked the Bauchi State Government for supporting the project and said the Federal Government would continue to work with state governments to improve healthcare delivery and access to medical services for Nigerians.
