The examination body issued the warning on Monday, October 12, 2026, through a post on its official X account. It urged prospective students seeking admission into tertiary institutions to confirm their admission status on CAPS before accepting any offer.

JAMB cautioned that accepting an admission offer that was not processed through its approved system could expose candidates to problems with their academic records and other admission-related procedures.

The board gave the warning while promoting an episode of its JAMB Explained series, which provides information on illegal admissions, the possible consequences and steps candidates can take to avoid falling victim.

It advised candidates to ensure that their admission process followed the approved procedure, noting that verifying an offer before accepting it would help protect their academic future.

CAPS is an admission platform introduced by JAMB to automate and manage the admission process into tertiary institutions across Nigeria. It allows candidates to check their admission status and either accept or reject provisional admission offers.

The system also enables universities, polytechnics, colleges of education and other participating institutions to process admissions through a centralised platform in line with JAMB’s regulations.

Under the board’s 2026 admission guidelines, admission offers are required to pass through its approved process and be accessible to candidates through the JAMB e-Facility platform.

The guidelines state that admissions offered by tertiary institutions without a JAMB admission letter are considered illegal and will not be recognised by the board.

JAMB also warned that candidates who accept admission outside CAPS would be doing so at their own risk. It maintained that it would not recognise or approve such admissions.

The latest warning serves as a reminder to prospective students to confirm their admission status through official JAMB channels rather than relying solely on offers communicated directly by institutions or other sources.

Candidates are therefore advised to check the CAPS platform and ensure that their admission has been properly processed before proceeding with registration or other academic activities.
