The attack claimed the life of one officer, while another sustained serious injuries.

The Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday.

According to Akinlabi, the incident happened on October 6 when two immigration officers were carrying out routine surveillance duties. The officers were reportedly attacked by unidentified assailants.

One of the officers, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration I. U. Babangida, died from the attack, while the second officer, Inspector A. K. Musa, suffered serious injuries.

Musa, however, managed to escape from the attackers and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The NIS spokesperson confirmed that Babangida had been buried in line with Islamic traditions. He also paid tribute to the late officer for his dedication to duty and service to the country.

Akinlabi expressed the Service’s condolences to Babangida’s family, friends, colleagues and other loved ones following his death.

He also wished Musa a quick recovery, adding that the Service would continue to support the families of the affected officers during the difficult period.

The NIS assured the families that they would not be left alone to deal with the consequences of the attack, promising to provide the necessary assistance as they mourn their loved one and support the injured officer’s recovery.

The Service further disclosed that it was working with the Federal Government and relevant security agencies to track down those behind the incident.

According to the spokesperson, efforts were ongoing to identify the attackers, arrest them and ensure that they face the full consequences of their actions.

The NIS maintained that those responsible for the killing would be made to answer for their actions, as the Service continues to work with other security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
