Checks on Friday showed that the state-owned oil company had raised its Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) price by ₦35 per litre.

Some fuel attendants, who spoke anonymously, said the new price was announced on Thursday but took effect on Friday. NNPCL has yet to explain the reason for the latest adjustment.

The development comes after the company reportedly returned its petrol price to ₦1,370 per litre on Monday, following an earlier increase to ₦1,405 per litre.

The latest adjustment has renewed questions about the consistency of petrol pricing at NNPCL filling stations amid discussions over a proposed fuel price reduction.

On Thursday, the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, announced a proposed fixed petrol gantry price of ₦1,375 per litre ahead of the presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
