APC Mocks PDP Over Defections, Says Party Is Near Collapse

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has taken a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the remaining members of the opposition as individuals holding on to a party that is gradually fading away.

The remark came after another round of defections from the PDP to the ruling party. In a statement issued on Saturday, the Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, said the mass movement of PDP members into the APC showed that the opposition party was losing its grip and unity.

He explained that the situation within the PDP was not just a normal case of political defections but the result of years of internal deceit, lack of purpose, and broken trust among its leaders.

According to him, the PDP has failed to rebuild itself or offer Nigerians any new direction after its long years in power.Oladejo noted that the APC had anticipated the continuous collapse of the PDP because, in his view, the party had relied too heavily on propaganda during its 16 years in government.

He said many of the defectors were now joining the ruling party because they believe in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the government’s focus on progress and stability.

He described the PDP as a party that once enjoyed wide influence but has now lost its appeal and direction, leaving only a few loyalists to manage what he called the remains of a once-strong organization.

Oladejo urged the PDP to face reality, accept responsibility for its failures, and understand that Nigerians have moved on from its leadership. He maintained that the continuous defections show growing support for the APC and a loss of confidence in the opposition’s ability to serve as an alternative voice in the country.

The APC spokesman added that the ruling party remains open to receiving more members from the PDP and other groups who wish to join its vision for a stable and progressive Nigeria.
