NYCN Power Tussle Deepens as Sukubo Declares Support for Tinubu 2027

The leadership crisis rocking the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has worsened following a fresh declaration by Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, who reaffirmed his position as president of the council and announced support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Sukubo made this known during a press conference in Abuja, where he said his faction of the NYCN had resolved, after nationwide consultations, to back President Tinubu for a second term.

He stated that the decision was based on discussions held with youth leaders across all states and local government areas in Nigeria.

His announcement comes amid an ongoing leadership dispute between his camp and another faction led by Babangida Onimisi Isah, both of whom claim authority over the council.

The internal division has deepened political tension within the youth body as the 2027 elections draw closer.According to Sukubo, his executive members were duly elected and remain the legitimate representatives of Nigerian youths.

He said their support for President Tinubu followed an assessment of national progress under the current government, particularly in youth development, education, entrepreneurship, and digital innovation.

He urged President Tinubu to declare his interest in the 2027 presidential race, adding that youth chapters across all 36 states and the 774 local government areas would be mobilized to rally support.

Sukubo maintained that the NYCN remains non-partisan but has a duty to engage in issues that concern young people and the future of the country.
