Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His resignation was confirmed in a statement shared on Facebook by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, on Wednesday.The development followed months of speculation about Diri’s alleged plans to leave the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, Alabrah did not mention the political party Diri intends to join.Sources revealed that the governor made the announcement during the weekly State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Yenagoa.

Diri also submitted his resignation letter to the party, ending his membership officially.The Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, and all PDP members in the state legislature were said to have resigned alongside the governor.
Reports also indicated that members of the State Executive Council followed the same path, stepping down from the party with him.Efforts to reach the state PDP Chairman, Solomon Agwanana, for comments on the matter were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls.
Diri’s resignation marks a major political shift in Bayelsa State, creating uncertainty about the state’s political direction ahead of future elections.
