Wike’s Aide Blasts Peter Obi, Says FCTA Not Running “Beer Parlour Development” Like Anambra

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticised Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his recent comments on the state of public schools in Abuja.

Olayinka said Obi should focus on addressing his current political irrelevance instead of seeking media attention by attacking the FCT administration.

He accused the former Anambra governor of running what he described as a “beer parlour style” of governance during his eight years in office, claiming that Obi left behind no meaningful legacy in education or infrastructure.

The aide’s comments followed Obi’s visit to LEA Primary School in Kapwa, Abuja, where he described the condition of public schools as shameful and reflective of Nigeria’s poor commitment to education.

Reacting, Olayinka said the Wike-led FCT administration is already addressing such issues through ongoing school renovation projects across the six area councils.

According to him, 102 contracts have been awarded for school renovations, with 21 schools fully completed and 73 others undergoing reconstruction.

He challenged Obi to name the number of schools he built or upgraded while in office, alleging that instead of investing in infrastructure, he kept Anambra’s funds in his private bank.

Olayinka claimed that Anambra State is still struggling with the effects of what he called Obi’s poor governance, which his successors are still trying to fix.

He further described Obi as an “internally displaced politician” who has no clear political base ahead of the 2027 general elections, questioning under which party he plans to contest.

Olayinka mocked the former governor’s campaign image from 2023, saying, “No party will offer him a ticket simply because he keeps boasting about having one shoe and one wristwatch.”
