The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and dismissed claims that he is being backed by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement released on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the report alleging that some PDP leaders met to “push” Wike to run for president was described as false and baseless.
Olayinka stated that Wike remains committed to President Tinubu’s leadership and would continue to work towards achieving the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda until 2031. He criticized those behind the rumor, describing them as individuals with no meaningful contribution to national development.
He further explained that the only meeting that took place on August 20, 2025, involved PDP stakeholders from the southern region and was held to discuss issues related to party zoning, not a presidential ambition.
According to Olayinka, the details of the meeting were made public in a joint statement by several PDP leaders, including state chairmen from Imo, Abia, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers, as well as key national officers and lawmakers.He noted that Wike’s position on national politics is clear and that the minister does not engage in secret political moves.
Olayinka reiterated that Wike’s focus remains on supporting Tinubu’s administration and ensuring continued development in the Federal Capital Territory to align with the President’s vision for a world-class capital city.
