Tinubu Replaces Defence Chief, Appoints New Service Heads

President Bola Tinubu has approved major changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s armed forces as part of efforts to improve the nation’s security system.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, taking over from General Christopher Musa.

Major-General W. Shaibu was named the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke was appointed Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral I. Abbas will now serve as the Chief of Naval Staff.

Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retained his role as Chief of Defence Intelligence.President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing service chiefs for their dedication and service to the country.

He urged the newly appointed officers to build on the gains of their predecessors and strengthen cooperation and discipline within the military.The new appointments take immediate effect.
