The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he will appear in court as a witness in the trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, if officially summoned by the court.

Wike made this known during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Friday while responding to questions about his name being listed among witnesses in Kanu’s case.

The comment followed a motion Kanu filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja earlier in the week, indicating his intention to begin his defence on Friday, October 24, 2025.

In the filing, Kanu reportedly listed 23 witnesses, including Wike, former Defence Minister General Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), and former Chief of Army Staff General Tukur Buratai (retd.).The minister stated that he was unaware of his inclusion on the list and had not been served any court papers.
He explained that he had not requested to be part of the proceedings but would respect the law if officially called upon.Wike added that he would only appear before the court if served with a subpoena, as he could not act on reports circulating in the media.
The case involving Kanu continues at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he faces charges related to his activities as the leader of IPOB.
