ADC Forms New Adamawa Leadership, Targets 2027 to Challenge APC Dominance

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has set up an interim leadership for its Adamawa State chapter as part of efforts to strengthen the party and prevent Nigeria from drifting toward a one-party system.

The event, which took place in Yola on Saturday, brought together key party figures who expressed confidence that the ADC would rise to become the leading opposition force ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The inauguration was chaired by Babachir Lawal, the National Vice Chairman of the party in the North East. He stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had lost public trust, adding that the ADC was ready to present itself as a better alternative capable of winning power in 2027.

Other prominent members, including former senators Ishaku Abbo and Abdulazeez Nyako, backed the move, saying the ADC has gained growing acceptance among young people and credible politicians across the country.

They stressed the need for fairness and inclusiveness in selecting candidates who would represent the party in future elections.The newly inaugurated interim leadership is led by a former Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Sadiq Dasin.

During the inauguration, he said the new leadership became necessary following unresolved disputes between two former factional leaders of the party in the state.

Dasin assured members of transparency and unity within the party, noting that the leadership would work toward building a strong structure capable of competing effectively in the 2027 elections.

The inauguration also saw the formation of a large state steering committee that includes prominent politicians such as Babachir Lawal, Senator Abbo, former Governor Jibrilla Bindow, and Senator Nyako, all of whom pledged their support for the ADC’s mission to reclaim political balance in Adamawa and Nigeria at large.
