PDP Suspends Anambra Governorship Candidate Ezenwafor for Alleged Party Sabotage

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has suspended its governorship candidate, Mr. Jude Ezenwafor, over allegations of working against the party’s interest during the just concluded November 8 governorship election.

The suspension, which took immediate effect, was announced by the State Executive Committee (SEC) after a meeting held at the party’s office in Awka on Tuesday. According to the committee, the decision followed Ezenwafor’s conduct throughout the election period, which they described as harmful to the unity and progress of the party.

The state chairman of the PDP, Mr. Chidi Chidebe, said Ezenwafor failed to take part in campaign activities across the wards, local governments, and the state during the entire electioneering period. He added that the party became concerned after noticing his continuous absence from campaign events and meetings.

It was gathered that Ezenwafor was accused of colluding with candidates from other political parties to weaken the PDP’s chances in the election. The SEC also alleged that he made up stories about threats to his life and incidents of extortion involving party members, including his running mate.

Further reports revealed that Ezenwafor created a parallel group within the party made up of individuals who were not genuine members of the PDP. This group was allegedly used to interfere with party activities and cause confusion.

Following discussions, the SEC resolved to suspend Ezenwafor from the party for one month pending further investigation by the State Party Disciplinary Committee. The decision has also been forwarded to the National Working Committee (NWC) for proper action.

The party explained that due to the candidate’s lack of leadership and involvement, local council executives were instructed to mobilize support for other PDP candidates in their areas. This strategy, according to the SEC, helped the party secure 1,401 votes, placing it sixth among sixteen political parties that contested the election.

Records showed that Ezenwafor received only one vote in his own ward, Nnobi Ward 3 in Idemili South Local Government Area, which has twelve polling units. Party officials described this as the worst result ever recorded for the PDP in any ward in Anambra, saying it revealed his lack of commitment and credibility.

The PDP leadership in the state reiterated its commitment to party discipline, unity, and internal democracy, noting that it remains focused on rebuilding and strengthening the party under the national leadership of Ambassador Umar Damagum.

Efforts to reach Ezenwafor for his response were unsuccessful, as his phone line was switched off at the time of filing this report.
