PDP Denies Plot to Attack Former Governor Matawalle

Gusau, Nigeria – The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has refuted claims that it planned an attack on former Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle during his visit to the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the party described the report as a false story meant to create fear and confusion among residents. The PDP explained that it has no reason to attack anyone and remains focused on maintaining peace and stability under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal.

The party stated that since Lawal assumed office, the state government has worked hard to end political violence and dismantle the structures of thuggery it claimed were set up during the previous administration. It added that Zamfara has since experienced a return to calm and order.

According to the statement, the PDP’s main focus is the upcoming National Elective Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan. The party confirmed that its delegates from Zamfara have already departed for the event.

The PDP also urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to maintain peace and act responsibly while receiving their leader, warning against any action that could disturb the harmony in the state. It cautioned party members to avoid confrontations and obey the law during political activities.

In addition, the PDP accused the APC of allegedly sponsoring thugs to disrupt the movement of its supporters traveling to Ibadan for the convention. It called on security agencies to investigate the alleged plan and ensure that peace is maintained across the state.

The statement concluded that the PDP remains committed to preserving unity, peace, and development in Zamfara State.
