Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel, has alleged that the Federal High Court in Abuja refused to issue a production warrant that would allow prison authorities to bring the IPOB leader from Sokoto to Abuja for the settlement of appeal records. This step is part of the normal legal process required before an appeal can be heard at the Court of Appeal.

According to information made available on Thursday, a summons was earlier issued by the court registrar asking Kanu to appear at the Federal High Court in Abuja on November 28, 2025, for the settlement of records linked to the appeal he filed before the judgment delivered against him. However, the prison authorities reportedly said they could not move him without a formal warrant from the court.

Prince Emmanuel claimed that the court declined to approve this warrant, which makes it difficult for the scheduled procedure to take place as planned.

Kanu is appealing a case listed between him and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following his conviction on terrorism-related charges. On November 20, 2025, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced him to life imprisonment. He is currently serving his sentence at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.
The situation has raised concerns about delays in the appeal process, as the settlement of records is a required step before the case can move forward at the appellate court.
