The New Nigerian Peoples Party has retained its National Working Committee as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections. Delegates at the party’s national convention in Abuja voted to allow Dr Ajuji Ahmed to continue as national chairman alongside other members of the committee.
The decision was reached during a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee following the convention. The gathering attracted key figures within the party, including Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, the party’s national leader Rabiu Kwankwaso, and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Addressing party members after the decision, the national chairman said the party remained focused on building a united and forward-looking political platform capable of offering Nigerians a new direction. He stated that the party had taken steps to strengthen its structure and position itself as a strong participant in the country’s democratic process.
He explained that the NNPP had completed congresses at ward, local government, state and zonal levels, leading to the emergence of new leaders across the country. According to him, these processes were part of efforts to deepen internal organisation and prepare the party for future contests.
The chairman also called on newly elected leaders at different levels to live up to the trust given to them by party members. He said the NNPP remained open to Nigerians seeking a different political option and urged party leaders to meet public expectations as the next election cycle approaches.
Party leaders at the event described the re-election of the committee as a move aimed at stability and continuity as preparations for 2027 gather pace.
