A senior member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Farouk Aliyu, said the current turmoil in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not caused by the APC but could benefit the ruling party.
Aliyu spoke in an interview on the television programme Sunrise Daily, explaining that the disputes within PDP are internal matters. He traced the party’s current challenges to disagreements over the selection of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2023 elections. According to him, PDP’s leadership decisions created internal conflicts that later escalated.
He added that while APC has no intention of interfering with the PDP, the ruling party could gain from the opposition’s struggles if the crisis worsens. Aliyu said the disputes within PDP are a result of the party’s own actions, and not a strategy or maneuver by APC.
