Ekiti State has approved a new tax administration law after Governor Biodun Oyebanji signed the Ekiti State Revenue Administration Law 2025 in Ado-Ekiti. The law was passed by the State House of Assembly and received the governor’s assent after completing legislative review.
With this approval, Ekiti becomes the first state in Nigeria to adopt the Nigeria Tax Administration Act at the state level. The new law brings Ekiti’s tax system in line with the national tax framework while still allowing the state to address its local tax needs.
State officials explained that the law introduces a single and coordinated tax system that connects state tax operations with federal standards. This approach is expected to make tax compliance easier for businesses and residents, reduce confusion, and improve revenue collection without introducing new taxes or increasing existing charges.
The government stated that the reform is designed to create order in tax administration and support better accountability. By adopting the national framework early, Ekiti aims to set an example for other states and show readiness to support economic growth through improved tax management.
Officials also noted that the new system will help taxpayers better understand their obligations and ensure smoother interaction between state and federal tax authorities. The state government believes the law will strengthen confidence in the tax system and support long-term development efforts across Ekiti.
