The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of using his office to frustrate opposition activities ahead of the next governorship election. The party claimed the state government has created unfair conditions that prevent the APC from freely carrying out campaign activities.
In a statement issued in Osogbo, the APC spokesman, Kola Olabisi, alleged that the state government directed the Osun State Signage and Advertisement Agency to stop the approval and display of APC billboards in Osogbo. He claimed the restriction covers major routes from Akoda to the Osogbo City Stadium and is meant to last until the election period.
The party further alleged that the government instructed the agency to identify existing billboard owners and pay them compensation covering three years, a move it described as politically motivated. According to the APC, the directive was designed to limit the visibility of its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, by taking advantage of the powers of office.
The APC questioned why the state government would adopt such measures if it was confident of popular support. It described the alleged actions as undemocratic and warned that they could damage the political process in the state.
In response, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on the Signage, Hoarding and Advertisement Agency, Wale Ayofe-Aminu, rejected the claims and said the APC was misrepresenting normal regulatory duties as political victimisation. He stated that the agency operates based on existing laws and guidelines that apply equally to all political parties and advertisers.
Ayofe-Aminu said there was no order to target any party or candidate and described the APC’s allegations as politically driven. He added that billboard regulations in the state are uniform and non-discriminatory, and that the agency has continued to carry out its responsibilities within the law.
He also said the APC’s complaints were driven by fear of the coming election and insisted that the Adeleke administration remains committed to fairness, rule of law, and democratic values. According to him, the government’s performance across the state has earned it support from residents, and no amount of public complaints would change that.
The exchange is the latest in a series of accusations between the APC and the Osun State Government, as both sides continue to trade words over governance, public spending, and preparations for the 2026 governorship election.
