Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election, has expressed strong confidence that he will emerge as the next governor of the state. He spoke on Saturday in Ikire, his hometown, during an annual prayer programme organised by the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria.
Osun State is expected to hold its governorship election on August 8, 2026. Oyebamiji will contest against the current governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking another term, as well as other candidates from different political parties.
Speaking at the religious gathering, Oyebamiji said the timing of the prayer was important as the election draws closer. He stated that prayers play a major role in leadership and governance and expressed belief that divine support would lead to his success at the polls.
He also told supporters that he remained confident of victory, insisting that he had wide acceptance across the state. According to him, the decision to run was based on conviction and trust that the outcome would favour him.
The Chief Imam of the Ansar-ud-Deen Society in Ikire, Alhaji Badmus Adekunle, also addressed the gathering. He described Oyebamiji as a capable leader and said the APC’s decision to present him as its candidate showed the level of trust he enjoys among party leaders and stakeholders. He added that the religious group would continue to pray for his success.
Oyebamiji’s wife, Dr Sekinah Bola-Oyebamiji, said the annual prayer event had been held for over a decade and had grown over the years. She noted that thousands of people were catered for at this year’s programme and said the family values the prayers and support they receive as they prepare for the next political step.
She added that their goal was to extend care and support to people across Osun State, especially women and children, and expressed hope that this would be possible if Oyebamiji becomes governor in 2026.
