Former Plateau State Governor, Senator Jonah Jang, has dismissed reports claiming that he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to either the African Democratic Congress or the Social Democratic Party.
The clarification was made on Sunday through a statement released by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba. The statement explained that the reports circulating on social media were false and misleading.
According to the statement, Jang remains a committed member of the PDP, a party he helped to establish. It added that although the party is currently facing internal challenges, Jang believes the ongoing court cases will eventually resolve the issues and restore unity within the party.
The former governor also expressed confidence that the PDP would overcome its present difficulties and regain its position in Nigerian politics.
The denial followed widespread speculation online suggesting that Jang had dumped the PDP. The rumours gained traction after the All Progressives Congress recently announced the defection of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, who is known to be politically linked to Jang.
The announcement of Mutfwang’s defection was made last week during the APC National Caucus meeting in Abuja and sparked debates among political observers, leading to assumptions about Jang’s political future.
Jang’s statement was issued to put an end to the speculation and reaffirm his loyalty to the PDP.
