N50bn Allegation: Oyo PDP Group Slams Fayose Over Makinde Claim

A PDP group in Oyo State, Oyo PDP-Visionaries, has dismissed claims by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose that Governor Seyi Makinde received N50 billion from the Federal Government following the January 2024 Bodija explosion.
The group said the allegation is not true and has no factual backing. In a statement released in Ibadan on Sunday and signed by its coordinator, Qudus Olayide, the group faulted Fayose for what it described as an attempt to mislead the public.
According to the group, the document Fayose presented to support his claim was only a letter showing requests made by states to the Ministry of Finance and did not show that any money was approved or paid to Oyo State. It added that a request letter cannot be taken as proof of fund release.
The group challenged Fayose to present clear records showing that the N50 billion was approved and disbursed, insisting that Nigerians can tell the difference between an application for funds and actual payment.
Oyo PDP-Visionaries also accused the former governor of acting out of personal interest and described his attacks on Makinde as careless and lacking seriousness. It warned that such actions could damage his public image and reflect poorly on his state.
The group further advised Fayose, as a former two-term governor, to conduct himself with restraint and understanding of how government processes work. It praised Governor Makinde’s leadership style, saying his administration remains open and focused on the welfare of residents.
The group concluded by urging Fayose to stop what it called needless political distractions and allow the Oyo State governor to continue his work without interference.
