Wike Dismisses Fubara’s 001 Claim, Rejects APC Leadership Talk in Rivers

Wike said Governor Fubara could not be regarded as the “001” of Rivers State, despite receiving that number during his registration into the APC after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party. He explained that party registration is done at ward and local government levels, not at the state level, and that any number assigned only applies within a member’s ward. According to him, being the first to register in a ward does not place anyone above others in the party structure.
He also dismissed the idea that Fubara automatically became the leader of the APC in Rivers State because of his position as governor. Wike argued that leadership in a political party is not based on holding public office alone, adding that similar claims would raise questions in other states where governors do not control party leadership. He maintained that leadership comes from influence, structure, and acceptance within the party, not titles or registration numbers.
Wike further stated that positions such as governor or minister do not on their own confer party leadership, stressing that leadership must be earned through clear qualities and support from party members.
