Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would face collapse if he decided to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). The FCT minister made this assertion during his end-of-year media session in Port Harcourt on Monday, addressing questions about his political future.
Wike explained that recent defections of some PDP members in Rivers State, including Governor Sim Fubara, to the APC do not affect his commitment to his party. He confirmed that he remains a member of PDP and has no plans to switch allegiance.
He pointed out that his decision to remain in the party maintains his influence and political structure within Rivers State. According to Wike, the defection of Fubara does not automatically make him the leader of the APC in the state, noting that political registration occurs at the local ward level rather than the state level.
The minister further noted that leadership requires more than holding official positions such as governor or minister. He said effective leadership depends on qualities that inspire followership and that moving to another party does not guarantee control or political advantage. Wike added that individual moves without broader party support do not secure automatic positions or electoral success.
Wike concluded by reaffirming his loyalty to PDP and urging members to focus on collective growth and party unity despite ongoing defections.
