Senior members of the Peoples Democratic Party recently met with former President Goodluck Jonathan as part of early preparations for the 2027 general elections. The meeting followed the inauguration of the party’s new national leadership that emerged from its convention held in Ibadan in November 2025.
The delegation was led by the National Working Committee chaired by Tanimu Turaki. Party leaders said the visit was meant to formally present the new leadership to Jonathan and to consult him as the party begins planning for off-season elections and the next national polls.
After the meeting, PDP officials said Jonathan confirmed that he remains a member of the party and is ready to take on a more active role in its affairs as it moves forward. He was also said to have expressed appreciation to the party for its role in his political career.
Party leaders stated that Jonathan showed willingness to support the PDP’s efforts to rebuild and reposition itself ahead of coming elections, including those in Ekiti and Osun states, as well as the 2027 general election.
The PDP leadership said it remains confident in its strength despite internal challenges and assured members that steps are being taken to promote unity and broader participation as the party prepares for future contests.
