Dele Momodu, a leading member of the African Democratic Congress, said he would support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Momodu made this known during an interview on a political programme aired on News Central. He said his loyalty lies with the ADC and not with any single individual, adding that his support would go fully to the party’s chosen candidate once the process is concluded.
He explained that several well-known political figures are being mentioned within and around the ADC ahead of the 2027 polls. According to him, if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, or former Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambuwal emerges as the party’s flag bearer, he would work for any of them without reservation.
The veteran journalist said his long-standing relationships with these political figures would not stand in the way of party unity. He noted that his personal connections across party lines were built over years of interaction, both within and outside Nigeria, but stressed that party decisions must come first.
Momodu also spoke about the past political cooperation between some of the figures, recalling that Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi once ran on the same ticket during the 2019 presidential election. He said their past collaboration shows that political competition does not always translate into personal hostility.
He added that internal respect and cooperation among political leaders remain important for opposition parties seeking to present a strong alternative in future elections. According to him, the ADC must focus on unity and internal agreement as it prepares for the 2027 presidential race.
Momodu concluded by reaffirming that once the ADC selects its presidential candidate, he will commit his energy and resources to support that person, regardless of personal preference, in order to strengthen the party’s chances at the polls.
