The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has rejected claims that Governor Dauda Lawal has written a letter to join the party. The party said the report circulating online is not true and did not come through any recognised party channel.
Governor Lawal was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and remains a member of that party. The APC said it has not received any communication from the governor showing interest in leaving the PDP.
In a statement released on Friday night, the state APC publicity secretary, Mallam Yusuf Idris, said the story was fabricated and wrongly linked to Tambarin Gusau. He explained that the claim was designed to confuse party members and the general public.
The party stated that its activities follow clear procedures and official communication lines, stressing that no letter or notice of defection from the governor exists in its records.
The APC advised its members and residents of Zamfara State to ignore the report, saying it was created to stir tension and spread false information. The party maintained that there has been no recent move by Governor Lawal to leave the PDP for the APC.
