President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of four ambassador-designates to key countries, including the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Turkey. The approval was announced on Thursday through a press release issued by the Presidency.
The postings were made from the list of 68 ambassadorial nominees earlier confirmed by the Senate in December. According to the release, the decision marks the first set of deployments from the confirmed list.
Colonel Lateef Are has been assigned as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to the United States. Ambassador Ayodele Oke was approved as the country’s envoy to France, while Ambassador Amin Dalhatu, who previously served as ambassador to South Korea, was named as the high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.
In addition, Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, a former governor of Kebbi State, was approved as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Turkey. His posting comes ahead of President Tinubu’s planned state visit to Turkey, which is expected to begin next week.
The President has also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to begin immediate diplomatic processes to complete the appointments. This includes formally notifying the governments of the four host countries in line with standard diplomatic procedures.
The latest approval signals the start of Nigeria’s renewed diplomatic engagement following the confirmation of ambassadors, as the government moves to strengthen its foreign relations and representation abroad.
