A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has set aside the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, 2025. The ruling followed a legal challenge arising from the long-running leadership crisis within the party.
In its decision, the court stopped members of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee from presenting themselves as national officers of the PDP. The court held that they no longer had the authority to act in that capacity following the dispute over the convention.
The court further recognised the Caretaker Committee headed by Mohammed Abdulrahman, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu as a key member, as the only valid National Working Committee of the party for now. According to the ruling, this arrangement will remain in place until the PDP conducts a fresh and valid national convention in line with the party’s constitution and the law.
The judgment is the latest development in the internal crisis that has divided the PDP into factions, with different groups seeking control of the party’s leadership structures. The ruling is seen as a boost to the camp aligned with Nyesom Wike, which has supported the caretaker committee.
