Terrorists Kidnap Kaduna Lawmaker Along Zamfara Highway

Gunmen suspected to be terrorists abducted a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon. Usman Garba, known as Zingo, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, along the highway linking Zamfara and Kaduna states. The incident occurred while the lawmaker was returning to Kaduna after attending an official engagement in Zamfara State.

Garba, who represents Kajuru Constituency, was reportedly intercepted near the Kaduna metropolis. The attackers were said to have blocked his vehicle, forced him out, and taken him away in their own vehicle, leaving his driver at the scene.

The driver later went to a nearby police station to report the abduction. Security operatives responded but the gunmen had already escaped with the lawmaker before they arrived.

As of the time this report was filed, there had been no contact from the abductors to the family of the victim or to the Kaduna State Government regarding any ransom demand.

The abduction has added to growing fears over insecurity in the North-West region, where highways have become unsafe for travellers. Cases of kidnapping, ambush and armed attacks have continued across major roads in Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto states.

Just a day before the incident involving the lawmaker, armed men attacked vehicles carrying traders from Kaura Namoda to Talata Mafara in Zamfara State. Several passengers were injured during the shooting and are receiving treatment at a hospital in Mafara.

In a separate attack earlier in the week, gunmen stormed Tse-Kaseve village in Anyagba Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area in Benue State. The assault took place around 4:00 p.m. when a large number of attackers riding motorcycles entered the community.

Security personnel, including members of the Police Mobile Force and the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, engaged the attackers and prevented further damage.
However, two police inspectors lost their lives during the confrontation, and their service rifles were taken by the attackers.

Four civilians were also killed in the incident, while another resident sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

The latest kidnapping of a sitting lawmaker has renewed concerns over the safety of public officials and ordinary citizens travelling across the region, as security agencies continue efforts to tackle rising attacks on highways and rural communities.
