Osun Gov Poll: INEC Releases Candidates’ Details

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday in Osun State released the personal details of candidates and their running mates for the governorship election scheduled for August 8, 2026, after 14 political parties completed the submission of required documents within the approved timetable.

The information was made public through a statement issued by the Public Affairs Officer in Osun, Musa Olurode, on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Mutiu Agboke.

The commission explained that the parties uploaded the names of their candidates and supporting documents after concluding their primaries and before the deadline for submission on the designated portal.

According to the commission, the list was cleared at its headquarters in Abuja after confirming that all documents met constitutional provisions and electoral guidelines.

The publication followed Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and the timetable for the Osun State governorship election.

The 14 political parties cleared to take part in the election are Accord, Action Alliance, African Action Congress, African Democratic Congress, Action Democratic Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, All Progressives Congress, Allied Peoples Movement, Action Peoples Party, Boot Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Peoples Redemption Party, Young Progressives Party, and Zenith Labour Party.

INEC stated that copies of Form EC9 submitted by each candidate, along with academic certificates and other supporting papers, would be displayed for public inspection.

These documents are to be made available from Monday, February 16, 2026, at the commission’s state office, all 30 local government offices, and the area office in Osun State.

The commission advised political parties, candidates, and members of the public to review the documents as allowed by law. It also made it clear that only the listed parties fulfilled the conditions required to participate in the election within the approved period.

Dr Agboke assured political stakeholders and residents of Osun State that the commission would conduct the election in line with the law and accepted democratic standards.

The governorship election is fixed for August 8, 2026, while political campaigns are expected to begin on March 11, 2026.
