The Independent National Electoral Commission in Osun State has released the names and personal details of candidates and their running mates for the August 8, 2026 governorship election, with Governor Ademola Adeleke retaining his current deputy as his running mate.
The electoral body made the information public on Monday after confirming that 14 political parties met the requirements within the approved timetable. The publication followed the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, which require the commission to display the particulars of candidates and their deputies.
Details from the list show that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Oyebamiji, selected former lawmaker Tunde Olatunji, who once represented Ife North State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, as his running mate. The Action Democratic Party presented Adeagbo Yemisi as its governorship candidate, making her the only woman contesting for the top seat.
Other parties also named their candidates and deputies. The Boot Party fielded Adesoji Masilo with Aresa Adenike as running mate. The New Nigeria Peoples Party presented Adeleke Adewale alongside Adeyera Adesola. The African Action Congress nominated Esan Abeeb with Bello Muideen as deputy. The Action Alliance chose Olanrewaju Farinloye and Fadahunsi Olaniyi as its ticket.
The African Democratic Congress cleared Najeem Salaam as its candidate, with Popoola Tajudeen as running mate. The Allied Peoples Movement listed Adewale Adebayo and Jimoh Naheem as its candidates.
INEC confirmed that 14 political parties successfully uploaded their candidates’ details before the deadline. The parties include Accord, Action Alliance, African Action Congress, African Democratic Congress, Action Democratic Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, All Progressives Congress, Allied Peoples Movement, Action Peoples Party, Boot Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Peoples Redemption Party, Young Progressive Party and Zenith Labour Party.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, Social Democratic Party, National Rescue Movement and Youth Party were not included in the published list.
INEC stated that the publication of candidates’ particulars is in line with the law and part of preparations for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
